Kata kerja wish digunakan ketika seorang mengungkapkan keinginkan atas kenyataan yang berbeda. Kata kerja ini diikuti simple past tense untuk mengungkapkan bahwa situasi yang diharapkan tak mungkin terjadi pada saat ini sedangkan diikuti past perfect tense jika tak mungkin terjadi di masa lalu.

Wish dapat pula diikuti past future tense untuk mengungkapkan keinginan mengerjakan sesuatu yang berbeda.
