I or Me and the Other Person

Secara grammatical personal pronoun I digunakan sebagai subjek kalimat, sedangkan me sebagai objek kalimat, baik secara langsung (direct object) atau tidak langsung (indirect object).

Contoh Kalimat I dan Me

  1. He sent me a postcard from Japan.
    (Dia mengirimi saya kartu pos dari jepang) me = indirect object
  2. Risa wanted to know if I had read the book.
    (Risa ingin tahu apakah saya sudah membaca buku itu.) I = subject

Namun kebingungan dalam penggunaan I dan me muncul ketika ada orang other person (orang lain) yang menyertai I atau me ditandai dengan coordinate conjunction “and”.

Cara mudah menentukan apakah yang digunakan I atau me pada kasus tersebut adalah dengan membayangkan jika other person yang menyertainya dihapus, kemudian dapat dilihat dengan lebih jelas, mana yang cocok digunakan secara grammatical dan behavior: I atau me.

    Tes: I was at home when the electricity went off. –> bukan “Me was…”

    Tes: The project has been successfully completed by me. –> bukan “…by I” karena “I” tidak menempati posisi object of preposition

  3. The company offered the sales manager position to my friend and me.
    (Perusahaan tersebut menawarkan posisi manager penjualan kepada saya dan teman saya.)

    Tes: The company offered the sales manager position to me. –> bukan “…to I” karena “I” tidak menempati posisi indirect object

  4. Sammy and I are going to go to the computer fair this weekend.
    (Saya dan Sammy akan ke pameran komputer akhir pekan ini.)

    Tes: I am going to go to the computer fair this weekend. –> bukan “me am going…”

  1. Kalau kalimat misalnya “the teacher teaching in your class is me” saya masih bingung, menggunakan “is I atau me” mohon penjelasannya! Kalau struktur pronoun yg lain saya sudah paham, terima kasih

        2. “she might have been studying”
        Kalimat no.1 itu kan future continuous sdgkan no.2 present perfect continuous, selain 2 tenses ini, tenses lagi boleh nggak pake progressive modal?
