Pengertian Delexical Verb
Delexical verb atau empty verb adalah kata kerja yang memiliki sedikit atau tanpa makna dan digunakan dalam transitive structure (diikuti direct object). Kata kerja ini ketika diikuti noun (sebagai direct object) disebut delexical structure.
Banyak kasus delexical structure mempunyai makna yang sama atau hampir sama dengan verb lain. Seringnya, kata kerja yang menjadi padanannya merupakan intransitive verb (tidak diikuti direct object).
- She took a wash = She washed a diaper
- I had a fight with my best friend = I fought with my best friend
Contoh Delexical Verb
do
Delexical verb ini biasanya diikuti aktivitas (gerund) atau pekerjaan dalam bentuk(noun atau indefinite pronoun).
do homework, do something important, do a research, do a housework, do the laundry, do the cleaning
give
give a whistle, give a broken smile, give a punch, give a big hug, give some advice, give a warning
go
Go diikuti common activities (gerund) atau diikuti for a + verb of movement (jog, drive, hike, run, walk)
go shopping, go sleeping, go swimming, go for a hike, go for a walk
have
have lunch, have a conversation, have a talk, have a bath, have a break, have a fight
make
Make digunakan untuk menyatakan kegiatan untuk membuat sesuatu, baik berwujud fisik maupun tidak. Fisik berupa plans, sedangkan non fisik berupa talking atau sounds.
make a mess, make a mistake, make food, make a cup of tea, make ten phone calls, make a suggestion
take
take a bath, take a rest, take care, take a chance, take a risk, take a photograph
