Pengertian Complex Transitive Verb

Complex transitive verb adalah verb (kata kerja) yang membutuhkan direct object dan object complement.

Di dalam konstruksi complex-transitive, object complement yang dapat berupa noun (kata benda), pronoun (kata ganti), atau adjective (kata sifat) berfungsi mendeskripsikan sifat, ciri, atau atribut direct object.

Contoh Kalimat Complex Intransitive Verb

  1. No one called him caring and nice.
    (Tidak ada orang yang menyebutnya pedulian dan menyenangkan.) caring, nice = adjective
  2. They never consider his presence a threat.
    (Mereka tidak pernah menganggap kehadirannya sebagai sebuah ancaman.) threat = noun
  3. The court found his analysis compelling.
    (Pengadilan merasa analisisnya menarik.) compelling = adjective
  4. She named her baby Varisha.
    (Dia menamakan bayinya Varisha.) Varisha = noun

Complex Transitive dan Transitive Verb

Kata kerja yang tergolong complex transitive verb mungkin dapat pula digunakan sebagai transitive verb tanpa object complement walaupun mungkin ada perubahan makna kalimat secara drastis.

Contoh Kalimat Complex Transitive dan Transitive Verb

  1. [complex transitive] I found him a friendly and professional denstist.
    (Saya merasa dia dokter gigi yang ramah dan profesional) friendly denstist, professional dentist = noun phrase
  2. [transitive] I found him.
    (Saya menemukannya.)

Passive Complex Transitive Verb

Direct object pada complex transitive verb dapat diubah dari active menjadi passive, namun tidak dengan object complement-nya.

Contoh Kalimat Active/Passive Complex Transitive Verb

  1. [active] They are making him a scapegoat.
    (Mereka sedang menjadikannya kambing hitam.)
  2. [passive] He is being made a scapegoat.
    (Dia sedang dijadikan kambing hitam.)
