Rumus Passive Voice – Simple Present Tense

Berbeda dengan active voice – simple present tense yang main verb-nya berupa verb-1 (pada contoh tulisan sebelumnya: simple present tense), main verb pada passive voice – simple present tense berupa past participle (verb-3).

Past participle ditemani oleh auxiliary verb is/am/are disesuaikan dengan subject pada passive voice (= object pada active voice) agar memenuhi subject-verb agreement. Is digunakan pada singular subject kecuali you dan I; are pada plural subject dan you; sementara am pada I.

Jika ada modal verb (seperti: can, should, may), past participle di dahului oleh auxiliary verb “be”.

  • S + verb-1 + direct object
  • S + modal + bare infinitive + direct object

passive voice

  • S (direct object) + is/am/are + past participle +/- by … (agent)
  • S (direct object) + modal + be + past participle +/- by … (agent)

Agent pada passive voice merupakan subject pada active voice. Pada passive voice, subject bertindak sebagai penerima aksi, sedangkan agent sebagai pelaku aksi.

Rumus di atas berlaku untuk transitive verb, dimana memang kata kerja tersebut yang umum dipasifkan. Kalimat dengan intransitive verb mungkin dapat dipasifkan jika memiliki prepositional phrase.

  1. Pregnant women should eat dark chocolate regularly.
    (Wanita hamil seharusnya makan coklat hitam secara teratur.)

    Dark chocolate should be eaten regularly by pregnant women.
    (Coklat hitam seharusnya dimakan secara teratur oleh wanita hamil.)

  2. People make books from trees.
    (Orang membuat buku dari pohon.)

    Books are made from trees.
    (Buku dibuat dari pohon.)

  3. My parents treat me like a baby.
    (Orang tua memperlakukan saya seperti bayi.)

    I am treated like a baby by my parents .
    (Saya diperlakukan seperti bayi oleh orang tua.)

  4. You can use the photos for free.
    (Kamu bisa menggunakan goto-foto tersebut secara gratis.)

    The photos can be used for free.
    (Foto-foto tersebut dapat digunakan secara gratis.)

  5. He often sleeps on the right side of the bed.
    (Dia selalu tidur di sisi kanan tempat tidur.)

    The right side of the bed is often slept on by him.
    (Sisi kanan tempat tidur sering ditiduri olehnya.)

10 Contoh Soal Passive Voice – Simple Present Tense Pilihan Ganda

Direct object pada active voice menjadi subject pada passive voice dimana pada simple present tense kata kerja verb-1 diubah menjadi be (am/is/are) + verb-3 (past participle).

Rumus active voice - simple present tense: S + verb-1 + direct object. Rumus passive voice - simple present tense: S (direct object - active voice) + is/am/are + verb-3 +/- by ... (S - active voice).

Is digunakan pada subject berupa singular noun dan third-person singular pronoun; are pada plural noun, plural pronoun dan you; sementara am pada I.
